Blog # 3 Technology Lesson Reflection
A week or so ago I
had the chance of making my own classroom including Technology strategies and
it was one of the most exciting assignments I’ve had to do all semester. I am not going to lie, going into this
assignment and knowing I had to build my own online classroom from scratch
was a bit intimidating. Before I had taken this course, I was very close-minded
and always wanted to use the same apps to create PowerPoint, videos, and other
ways of creating work. After this LMS
lesson, I gained a lot more experience and feel more confident in my technology
skills. We had some options to choose which app to use to create this
classroom, and I chose Google Classroom. Being new to all this, I navigated through
the website and looked at a lot of YouTube videos to see examples of how to
incorporate videos, images, and other documents. One of the first things I did
before I started my lesson planning was set a tone and background for my
classroom. I included a page with “All about me” facts and some pictures of
myself so the students can know a little bit about me. Before digging into the content,
I was going to teach, I made sure I chose a TEK that correlated with the grade
level I was going to teach. The grade and content I chose was 4th
grade, history. In addition, I used a
lesson plan template that guided me through the process of plugging in the
activities and resources the students will use to engage in the classroom. My TEK
was about the events that lead up to the Texas Declaration of Independence, and
to activate prior knowledge a provided four pictures of important events the
students would have to analyze and respond to 2/4 questions. For the “I Do” I explained
and delivered a presentation using the Canvas app, along with a short video to tie
into the lesson. I really like this application because it has a lot of cool design
templates made for you just to download and use. For the “We do” part I created
matching flashcards in Quizlet for the students to arrange accordingly. For the
“I do” part the students will create an infographic including facts, pictures,
people, and important events that occurred during the Texas Declaration of Independence.
The students will practice enhancing their technology skills by using a Canvas
Template. To wrap up the lesson I offered an enrichment assignment along with a
Re-teach that asked for students to write their own Texas Declaration of Independence.
Lastly, I provided an Exit ticket for the students to complete, which would
also allow me to get feedback from them at that moment. Overall I was very
happy with my outcome, and hope to continue learning and growing to develop
even better technology skills.
